Hello everyone! Welcome back to my blog, today I will be sharing a little bit about careers in the game industry as well as a career I would like to hold if I was going to enter this industry. Firstly let me say that there are so many careers opportunities within this field that it was hard to limit myself to only one. A person interested in having a career in the game industry has a plethora of options. Careers in this field include game programming, design, game art design, external product management / design, game testing, etc. Even with all of these options the career I would be most interested in would be to become a game designer. And who wouldn’t be? Being a game designer would be so much fun! Game designers are the ones who decide what a game consists of and how it plays. They plan and define all the elements of a game: its setting; rules; story flow; characters; the objects, the list goes on and on. I think it would be really cool to work on a game and then to see all your hard work pay off when people at home are playing your games. If this were my career path I would start off by trying to get a job for a game design company. This is my opinion is the best way to approach the game design industry because it allows you to gain much needed experience in the work field and there are hundreds of different companies to choose from. Obviously there are the big name companies like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, but there are hundreds of other companies such as Ubisoft, Rockstar, Namco, Konami, etc. that are always looking for new game designers. As much as I would have loved to be a game designer there are many skills needed to do this kind of work that I am not particularly good at. In order to become a game designer you will need to have some programming skills, be skilled in information design and user interface design, 2D and 3D graphic design, and so forth. Most of those skills are not something that I really understand but nonetheless I still think this would be the best job if I were to be working in the game industry.
