Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! This week I will be sharing with everyone a little bit about the person I admire the most in the video game industry. The person I admire the most is Shigeru Miyamoto who is a Japanese video game designer and producer who is best known for working at Nintendo and creating some of the most critically acclaimed and best-selling video games of all time. He has created games that have appeared on every Nintendo video game console. Some of the games and franchises that he has helped to create include Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, F-Zero, Pikmin, and Wii Sports series. Some of these franchises are instantly recognizable even by people who do not play video games. I think I can speak for most people when I say that Mario is a household video game character that can be recognized on a global level. In my opinion it is absolutely amazing how Miyamoto has been able to create so many long lasting and critically acclaimed franchises in the history of gaming. Miyamoto originally joined Nintendo in 1977 and in July 2015 he became the acting representative Director of Nintendo after the president Satoru Iwata passed away. Miyamoto has continued with Nintendo’s mission and philosophy of “producing and marketing the best products and support services available, providing products of the highest quality, and treating every customer with attention, consideration, and respect.” The reason I admire Miyamoto so much is the fact that he basically supplied my childhood with every game that I loved and put many hours into. I remember being a kid and spending hours playing games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time (which is one of the most critically acclaimed video games of all time) and Super Mario Bros. Every time I was playing these games I always remember having such a fun time and I still love playing Nintendo games and I am waiting in great anticipation for the release of their new gaming console here in the near future. Also in creating this blog I really wanted to include some quotes from Miyamoto (which can be seen in the banner picture on my pages) to show the type of good guy that he is and how he has had such an influence on the video game world. Below I am going to post a video of the new console that Nintendo is planning to roll out soon. It’s a really cool device and really goes to show the type of innovator that Miyamoto is and how he is still pushing the forefront of innovation in the industry. Thanks for checking out my blog again this week I’ll sign off with one of my favorite quotes from Shigeru Miyamoto, “video games are bad for you? They said the same thing about rock and roll.”
Here are a few links where you can learn more about Shigeru Miyamoto. The first link is for a Q & A he did with NPR about the origins of some of his favorite characters that he created. The second link takes you to an article about how Nintendo and Disney are going to be teaming up.
